Loggerhead sea turtles are an endangered species. Many of them have died from untended fishing gear, like getting tangled in nets. They were hunted, a long time ago, for their meat and eggs. This has decreased due to worldwide legislation, but they are still consumed in some countries. Other threats include coastal developement, predation of nests, human disturbances, and pollution.
Raccoons, crabs, and ants, raid loggerhead turtle nests too, when the baby turtles are still in their eggs. Once they hatch, they also become food for birds. Being a baby loggerhead turtle is not easy! But eventually, after they become adults, their only predators are sharks.
Climate change also affects the lives of loggerhead turtles. Climate change causes lots of beaches to disappear, because of erosion.
Marine pollution is a big part of why loggerhead turtles are endangered. When pollution is in the water, it contaminates the food of the turtles, and they become sick. Oil spills are affecting the turtles too.
Loggerhead females need quite, dark beaches to lay their eggs, and when te beaches become full of people, there becomes "artificial lighting", like lighthouses. Those make the loggerhead females have less places to lay their eggs, and they became endangered.
